Live UK train times, free for everyone
- Live departure and arrival boards for every station in Great Britain, from Darwin, National Rail's live train information system.
- Platforms, delays and cancellations, with the reason the railway gives.
- Each train's calling points, with late stops highlighted, and trains that divide or are replaced by buses clearly marked.
- Up to four tracked trains, plus your commuter trains to work and home, with a note in the app as soon as one is delayed, cancelled or changes platform.
- A Live Activity on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, from 15 minutes to two hours before your train leaves, with the platform, a countdown and where the train was last reported.
Does Trackside track trains using GPS?
No. Trackside doesn't use GPS. It uses Network Rail's train movement reports instead: the railway records the time a train passes stations and other timing points, and Trackside places your train at the latest one. So the train moves on the map in steps, as each report arrives, rather than continuously, and it can be a little behind where the train really is. Trackside always calls this the train's reported location, never its live position.
What does the train map show?
The map is part of Trackside Plus. As well as where your train was last reported, it shows:
- The stops already passed and the stops still to come.
- The train in front, when it's running late, as an early sign of a hold-up ahead.
- Where your train usually loses time, and disruption on the line ahead.
- Passenger reports at the stops ahead, and how busy the train usually gets along the line, where the operator publishes it.
- A choice of map styles.

Can I share my train's location with someone?
Yes, with Trackside Plus. Send a link and anyone can open it in a browser, with no app, to see where your train was last reported and when it's expected. A link made from a planned journey covers only your part of it, and the link stops working once the train arrives. On the free version you can share a picture of your train's details and expected arrival instead.
Why can Trackside differ from the station board?
Trackside shows what the railway's systems report, and those reports can arrive late or change: a forecast time moves as a train runs, a platform can change, and a train's reported position only updates at timing points. Station screens and announcements always take priority. If something in Trackside looks wrong, email gettrackside@gmail.com with the station and the train's time.
